On Tuesday, January 19, 2016, thirty (30) rooftop units (RTUs) will be transported by helicopter to the rooftop of the new Wal-Mart in Olympia Fields, Illinois. ICI is the general contractor on the project and is responsible for coordination and safety of the effort. The RTUs, which will control all heating and cooling for the 183,000 square foot store, were delivered last week via eight (8) semis and are currently staged in order of pick-up for efficient placement on the rooftop by the helicopter. The process will take approximately two (2) hours and footage can be observed live via ICI's on-site webcam: http://www.iciinc.com/webcams/wal-mart-supercenter-construction-webcam-olympia-fields-il/
In October 2015, ICI was contracted for the construction of a new, 183,000-square-foot Wal-Mart store in Olympia Fields, Illinois. The Wal-Mart is being built on a 16-acre site that was formerly occupied by a Currie Motors auto dealership. The construction duration is anticipated to be approximately one year; with a targeted turnover date of fall 2016.
The main entrance to the store will face Western Avenue, with access also from U.S. 30. Wal-Mart's arrival will rejuvenate the Olympia Corners shopping center at the southwest corner of U.S. 30 and Western Avenue. The shopping center suffered a major loss when its anchor tenant, Jewel-Osco, closed in 2011. The arrival of Wal-Mart has generated new interest from developers in the 14-acre shopping center.
